The Haunting Sins Of Our Past
“…behold, you have sinned against the LORD, and be sure your sin will find you out.” Numbers 32:23
Our sins will continue to haunt us until such time as they become exposed. I am sure that everybody lies for various reasons. Sometimes a lie is offered to protect someone from hurt or pain, but the truth usually comes out. Either you later confess your lie, or someone else will present the truth, and you will be found a liar. Once you are deemed a liar, you will have little credibility, and some will stop trusting you. Even the convincing liars are eventually exposed and the truth always comes out. If you steal from somebody, you have to keep your booty private. Otherwise your supposed friends will turn you in for the reward. If you cheat on your spouse, it will eventually come out. If you speed you will eventually get caught. It does not matter what sins you are guilty of they will be exposed.
But suppose you get away with these things here while you live on earth. Do you think that you will still get off? The answer is no. Because “God has appointed a day in which He will judge the world in righteousness…” (Acts 17:31). “For God will bring every act to judgment, everything which is hidden, whether it is good or evil.” (Ecclesiastes 12:14)
Sometimes we suffer torment ourselves because we feel a guilt associated with the sins of our past. As we mature and grow up, we see some of the foolish things we did, and are sorry for the stupidity of our actions. Not to mention as we realize our shortcomings, we feel the need to build our credibility and repair our reputation.
If you have tried to keep the things of your past secret, you probably are in agony, and suffer some mental disorders. Your conscience bothers you and it is eating away at your soul. You can try to mask it by turning to alcohol or drugs. What you and everyone else needs is to seek the spiritual things and learn to get right with God “For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ, that each one may be recompensed for his deeds in the body, according to what he has done, whether good or bad” (2 Corinthians 5:10)
Why not follow the Bible and begin your spiritual journey. Let us help you. To start, you must follow God’s way. You must believe that Jesus is the Son of God and died on the cross for your sins. (Acts 8:37). You must repent of your sins (Luke 13:3) you must confess Jesus as Lord (Matthew 10:32) and you must be baptized for the remission of your sins (Acts 2:38; 22:16). Then you must remain faithful and continue learning (2 Peter 3:18). May God bless you in your study of His word.
