Why Obedience Is So Important
Titus 1:16 reads: “They profess to know God, but by their deeds They deny
Him, being detestable and disobedient, and worthless for any good deed”.
Hebrews 5:9 reads that Jesus has become the source of eternal salvation to all
those who obey Him. Jesus Himself
has said “If you love me, you will keep my commandments”
(John 14:15). Put another way Jesus said: “He who does not love
Me does not keep my words…” (John 14:24). And 1 John 2:3
reads "that by this we know that we have come to know him (God),
if we keep His commandments". If we continue living in sin, but
claim a relationship with God, we are liars according to 1 John 1:6. We must
not forget that we are appointed to works of obedience. Ephesians 2:10 reads
that the children of God are "His workmanship
created in Christ Jesus to do good works". Now go back to John
14. In verse 12 Jesus says that His disciples(and by extension to all His believers)
will do the same works that Jesus did while on the earth. Jesus came for one
purpose and that purpose was the salvation of men’s souls. In the process,
the Glory of God would be declared. Jesus taught us to let our light show forth
among men that they may also glorify God (Matthew 5:16). The latter part of
1 Peter 4:11 reads: “So that in all things, God may be glorified”.
The simple answer to the question of “How do we glorify God?” is
to keep His commandments.
In those commands we are commanded to believe that Jesus is
the Son of God and died on the cross for our sins. (Acts 8:37). We must repent
of our sins (Luke 13:3) and we must confess Jesus as Lord (Matthew
10:32) and we must be baptized for the remission of
sins (Acts 2:38; 22:16). Then we must remain faithful and continue learning
(2 Peter 3:18). Let us help you on your spiritual journey.
May God bless you in your study of His word.
