RESTORE UNTO ME THE JOY OF THY SALVATION
Psalms 51:12

INTRODUCTION
1. This 51st Psalm was written after David sinned with Bathsheba -- II Sam. 11: 2 - 5
2. David, in this psalm, asks God to forgive him and to restore the JOY of God's salvation to him -- Ps. 51:
1 - 12

I. THE JOY OF GOD'S SALVATION
1. This the JOY that comes to an individual when he knows that his sins are forgiven and that he is
restored to the fellowship of God -- Isa. 59: 1- 2; Rom. 6:23; Rom. 3:23
(1) The Eunuch -- Acts 8: 35 - 39; I Pet. 3:21
(2) The people on Pentecost -- Acts 2: 37 - 38, 41, 46 - 47
(3) The Jailor -- Acts 16: 30 - 34
2. The Christian's JOY is in the Lord -- Phil. 3:1; 4:4; I Pet. 1:8
3. The JOY of salvation is independent of all this earth because this JOY has its source in heaven, in
Christ and in God.
4. It is a JOY no man can take -- John 16:22
5. We may lose all things in this world, but we still have this JOY in the Lord -- Heb. 10:34
(1) We have JOY in prayer -- Phil. 1:4
(2) The JOY that Jesus Christ is preached -- Phil. 1:18
(3) The JOY of faith -- Phil. 1:25
1. The Faith
2. "The statutes of the Lord are right, rejoicing the heart" --Psa. 19:8
(4) The JOY of seeing Christians in fellowship -- Phil. 2:2
(5) There is the JOY of suffering for Christ -- Phil. 2:17; Acts 5:41
(6) The JOY in Christ -- Phil. 3:1

II. WHY HAD DAVID LOST THE JOY OF GOD'S SALVATION?
1. He had lost the JOY of God's salvation because he had lost his salvation.
2. He had lost his salvation because of his sin with Bathsheba.
3. David confessed his sin and prayed for his sins to be forgiven -- II Sam. 12: 13; Psa. 51: 1 - 4, 7 - 10
-- and then for the JOY of his salvation to be restored -- Psa. 51:12
4. Christians lose all JOY in being Christians when their lives become polluted with public or private
sin.

III. SOME REASONS WHY SOME LOSE THE JOY OF GOD'S SALVATION
1. Discouragement
(1) Lack of family co-operation.
(2) Criticism of friends.
(3) Trouble in the congregation.
2. Lack of spiritual growth -- Heb. 5: 12 - 14; I Pet. 2:2; Matt. 13: 20 - 21
3. The pleasures of sin -- I John 2:15 - 17; Heb. 11:25; Lk. 8:14
4. Deceitfulness of riches -- Matt. 13:22
5. Neglect -- Heb. 2:1 - 3

IV. DAVID SAID, "RESTORE UNTO ME"
1. He did not say that the rest of Israel needed the JOY of their salvation; he realized that he himself
needed the JOY of his salvation.
2. Sometimes members of the church say:
(1) "They don't live like they ought to."
(2) "They don't have any enthusiasm."
(3) " They don't do any work."
3. This may be true, but this does not lessen my own guilt in the matter.
4. We ought to say, "I don't work enough."; "I don't have enough enthusiasm."; "I don't give enough."
5. If I say, "I don't do enough.", I won't say this too long before I will do something about it.
6. Having the JOY of our salvation and enthusiasm is an individual thing -- Phil. 2: 12; Gal. 6:4 - 5
7. When you are burning and breathing fire, you can set anything on fire, but I have yet to see a dead
ember to cause anything to burn.
8. When you are bustling about with activity and the JOY of your salvation, you'll see sinners come
down the aisle.

V. THE RESULTS OF HAVING THE JOY OF GOD'S SALVATION.
1. When we really have the JOY of God's salvation, the zeal of God's house will eat us up -- John 2:17
2. We will teach transgressors the way of the Lord -- Psa. 51:13
3. Sinners will be converted to the Lord -- Psa. 51:13
(1) This is the direct result of the preaching -- John 6: 44 - 45; I Tim. 4:16

CONCLUSION
1. Have you lost the JOY of God's Salvation?
2. Don't you want it restored today???
