Listen, And Be Careful
These are the words Moses spoke to the children of Israel right before they entered the Promised Land. In Deuteronomy Chapter Six we have several key phrases of instruction that were given to them that are just as much appropriate for us today as it was for them.
Moses said “The LORD told me to give you these laws and teachings so you can obey them…” (CEV) verse 1). God gives us laws for us to do. God’s laws are not suggestions or requests, but commands that we are expected to do. If we want to go to heaven when we die, we need to obey God. Jesus taught in Matthew 7:21 “Not everyone who says to Me, Lord, Lord, shall enter the kingdom of heaven, but he that does the will of My Father which is in heaven”. Too many people ignore God’s laws, and too many churches teach doctrines that do not emphasize the importance of keeping God’s commandments. Not just some commandments, but ALL of the commandments. Later in verse 3 we read: “O Israel, you should listen and be careful to do it, that it may be well with you and that you may multiply greatly, just as the LORD, the God of your fathers, has promised you, in a land flowing with milk and honey” (NASB)
It is not a matter of just hearing God’s commandments, but keeping and doing them that is so important. In fact, God instructs us to be careful to make sure we understand, and do His laws. We must be careful to do them exactly has He has specified and we must be careful to do ALL of them. There are a few churches that emphasize the keeping of all of God’s commandments and they are not popular with the masses. Too many preachers seek to please men instead of seeking to please God, and their message is error. Yes, there is a difference in all of these churches, and you should check them out if you want to be saved. You need to be careful to find a church that believes in the Bible as the authoritative and infallible (without error) WORD OF GOD. Find a church that believes and teaches what the Bible says. We must speak what the Bible speaks, and ONLY what the Bible speaks, and we must be careful to not leave anything out or be careful to not add to anything God said. Deuteronomy 4:2 “You shall not add to the word which I am commanding you, nor take away from it, that you may keep the commandments of the LORD your God which I command you.”
We must also remember that the obedience to the commandments is for our good. God has promised to bless us because of our obedience. God has also told us the consequences of not being obedient, and that should scare people. God designed it to be scary.
These words written over 3500 years ago still apply to us today. Learn the word, don’t change, and don’t add, don’t subtract, and keep God’s word. The best advice anyone could give comes from God Himself. Do you need some help in finding your spiritual guidance? Let us help you.
