America: A Christian
Nation?
When President Obama declared that this was not a Christian nation, there was
an uproar by many people, including the news media. Many religious leaders raised
an outcry that resonated for weeks. Obama was right.
As Christians, how should we view this statement that America is not a Christian
nation? Obviously, this nation was founded upon Biblical principles, and there
are many who wear the name of Christ, and live according to His teachings. But
there are more that do not acknowledge Christ as Lord and Savior of mankind. Jesus
Christ taught us that it is those who keep His commandments who will be His true
followers.
There are many who profess to be Christian, but their lives do not reflect such.
Immorality is rampant in this country, and people want to participate in all sorts
of immoral behavior, yet they still want to be considered Christian?
The most dangerous group of people that is facing the true church of Christ is
not the Atheists or the Muslims or other such groups. The most dangerous group
of the church today is those who are uncommitted to God and Christ. People who
wear the name of Christian, yet they do not live a Christian life. There are many
who excuse themselves from church attendance, but expect to be listed in the roll-call
up in heaven.
In much of our land, sin is promoted as a healthy lifestyle, and the only people
not tolerated are those who teach what the Bible says about such life styles.
Sin is rampant in our society, and to deny such is just being naive. Fornication
is rampant. There are more children giving birth these days than in times past,
and now, there is no shame to such behavior, rather these unwed mothers are treated
like a gift to society.
The homosexual community is very organized and brings pressure upon anyone that
would expose their lifestyle as sin. Recently, Apple corp. added an application
that anyone considering leaving the homosexuality community could get some support
and help. The homosexuality community brought so much pressure upon Apple that
they removed the app. But Apple kept an app where any homosexual could find a
sex partner simply by pushing a button on the phone.
Here is where the major problem lies. The love of money is the root of all sorts
of evil (1 Timothy 6:10). Drugs add billions to our economy. Alcohol and strong
drinks and the collateral damage it causes bring billions to our economy. Fornication
brings billions to our economy. Just about every vice you can think of contributes
to our economy, and that is somehow supposed to make it ok? That is why we cannot
win the war on drugs, not to mention human-sex trade and illegal gambling, etc.
There is also much deceit by the preachers of our land taking place. They teach
people a false sense of security that once saved people never have to worry about
losing their souls, but if these same people continue to sin at will, and violate
any and every command of Christ, they can lose their souls. According to the Bible,
only those who do the will of the Father in Heaven will be accepted by Him (Matthew
7:21).
There are preachers in our land that deny the Deity of Jesus the Christ. According
to the Bible, this makes them anti-christs (1 John 2:22). Some groups do not acknowledge
Jesus as Lord. But the Bible teaches us that Jesus is the way, the truth, and
the life, and no one can come to God except through Him (John 14:6). Those groups
that pretend to worship God without Christ are being deceived by their preachers.
And many preachers are doing their best to remove the authority of the Bible by
claiming the Bible to be outdated or obsolete. Well, the Bible says that the grass
withers, the flower fades, but the word of God abides forever (Isaiah 40:6-8).
It does not matter that most of them have creed books that extol the Bible as
being the inerrant, infallible word of God fully sufficient to accomplish the
will of God. If the Bible is so fully sufficient, why do they keep their creed
books? But here is the reason they teach this error: “for the time will
come when they will not endure sound doctrine, but wishing to have their ears
tickled, will accumulate teachers of their own desires” (2 Timothy 4:3-4).
The Bible warns of adding to the Bible, and taking away from the Bible. When preachers
do not preach the whole counsel of God, they are removing parts of the Bible.
The Bible is the word of God, and it is truth. The Bible tells us we must be careful
and diligent to do all that the LORD commands.
We do not know the future of our nation that we love and respect. We should pray
for our nation, and its leadership. We should pray that they turn to God for guidance.
We should pray for our coming generations, that they can keep the freedoms to
practice their faith. We should do our part to warn people of the consequences
of continued sin.
