Question: Could you please point out to me exactly where in the Bible it states that we have free choice and free will? Be specific, but also list passages related to free will and free choice. Also, if you could give me additional information on free will/free choice. Thanks!

Answer: The very existence of a law implies a choice. Obedience or disobedience. Compliance or non-compliance. This is a universal truism. God also offered rewards for obedience and punishment for disobedience. Which should be involved in the decision making process to determine what we are going to do.

Read Deut 6:24-25. Read Deut 11:13-17. Notice Deut 11:26-28. This definitely implies a choice to be made. Deut 28:1-14 promises blessings for obedience to the law. verses 15-68 describes the punishment for disobedience. Next, notice Deut 30:15-20. v.19 includes the words of encouragement to "choose" life.

A famous passage by Joshua also includes the words "choose". Josh 24:1-28. especially v.15 "choose for yourselves today whom you will serve.....but as for me and my house, we will serve the Lord" (choice was made by Joshua).

By necessary implication, we should see that every command of God gives us a choice. We can either obey or sin.

It behooves us to understand what the will of the Lord is (Eph 5:17) and that we study to show ourselves approved (2 Tim 2:15) and handle aright the word of God. (viz).

Keep studying God's word. (Carey Scott, 7-5-2000 askme.com)
