Watch Your Tongue
It does not take a rocket scientist to figure out that the language used in
society today is horrible. While just a generation ago, the TV programs had
strict guidelines on what could not be said. Over the past few years, more and
more programs are pushing the limits of what is deemed acceptable. I dare say
that the programs that we might consider clean, would have been very offensive
to society back when they were our age.
The Bible warns us to watch what we say and how we say things. The Bible compares
the tongue to a small flame in a forest, a huge ship’s rudder, and a bit
in mouth of a horse.(James 3:1-12 is a good passage to read here)
Colossians 4:6 reads: “Let your speech always be with grace, seasoned,
as it were, with salt, so that you may know how you should respond to each person”.
Grace is equal to mercy and kindness. So your speech should be kind towards
and about others. The word ‘seasoned’, as written here, means tempered,
cautious, and beneficial. If you don’t have something nice to say, then
don’t say it. Salt is a savory spice but also has a preservative effect.
So your speech should be tasteful to everyone who hears it, and your speech
needs to preserve your integrity. What you say and how you say it will form
opinions of others to know what is in your heart. Jesus said that all the problems
of life come out of the mouth and they come from the heart.(Mark 7:20-21)
Clean up your language and people will think highly of you. Speak garbage and
they will think that is where you belong.
“Let the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart be acceptable
in Thy sight, O LORD, my rock and my Redeemer.” Psalm 19:14
Philippians 2:11 reads: “and that every tongue should confess
that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.” My
friends, salvation is promised to those that confess Jesus as Lord and to those
who continue to obey Him. If you want to be saved, you need to confess Him now
(Romans 10:10). Waiting until judgment day to acknowledge that Jesus is Lord
will be too late.
We know that God is not willing that any perish (2 Peter 3:9). You must
believe that Jesus is the Son of God and died on the cross for your
sins. (Acts 8:37). You must repent of your sins (Luke 13:3),
you must confess Jesus as Lord (Matthew 10:32) and you must
be baptized for the remission of sins (Acts 2:38; 22:16). Then
you must remain faithful and continue learning how to serve
God (2 Peter 3:18). Let us help you on your spiritual journey. May God bless
you in your study of His word.
