How To Be A Better Person

A few weeks ago we suggested that you consider being a little nicer to your family and friends and neighbors. We even offered some suggestions of things you could do to make a difference in someone’s life. But the harsh reality is that we human beings do not like change, and asking us to change is getting a little pushy.

In some cases, it takes a life altering event to change your perspective about yourself and the way you treat others. Finding yourself in a medical emergency brings your mortality to present reality. Once you have gone through a near death experience, you view things differently. Sometimes a family crisis like a divorce or death requires changes in behavior. Sadly, for some it takes them hitting rock bottom before they realize the need for change in their life.

But what we really need to emphasize is the fact that you really will not change without the proper motivation. Thus we ask that you consider Jesus the Christ to be your guide, example, Savior, and LORD. Only those who submit to Jesus and obey Him, will be able to change the course of their destiny. Nobody can merit salvation, thus we need to rely upon His grace. But His grace only goes so far. We must respond to His grace in order to benefit from what He has promised us. Remember that God promises us a crown of life, but only AFTER we have done His will .

Hebrews 4:16 reads: “Let us therefore draw near with confidence to the throne of grace, that we may receive mercy and may find grace to help in time of need.”

“Draw near” means to force ourselves to get closer to God. We do this when we learn of His commandments and submit to them. Then we can be confident of His mercy upon us when we know that we have done His will. Just calling out His name, or saying that you believe will not accomplish your salvation. You must obey Him in all He teaches.Only then can you turn your life around and become a better person. For you will seek to be like Jesus in all things good, and the result will be that others notice the goodness in you that you follow in Jesus.

We know that God is not willing that any perish (2 Peter 3:9). You must believe that Jesus is the Son of God and died on the cross for your sins. (Acts 8:37). You must repent of your sins (Luke 13:3), you must confess Jesus as Lord (Matthew 10:32) and you must be baptized for the remission of sins (Acts 2:38; 22:16). Then you must remain faithful and continue learning how to serve God (2 Peter 3:18). Let us help you on your spiritual journey. May God bless you in your study of His word.
