The Prayer Of Daniel
There are several prayers recorded in God’s word, the Bible. Some are short and some are long. The prayer of Daniel is recorded in Chapter 9 of his book. Part of his prayer is similar to what you might have read in an e-mail recently. It would benefit each of us to read and meditate on the prayer of Daniel. We all need to seek Him (God) by prayer. This is just not a quickie one mutters before eating a meal or going to bed at night. This type of prayer is a determined action and surrounded by fasting (a deprival of food so that one can focus upon something else). Sackcloth and ashes signifies a type of humility as we approach God. We should humble ourselves before God when we intend to pray to Him. The reason is that when we humbly pray to God, God listens. Another quality we need in order for God to hear our prayer is to practice righteousness as a way of living, not just as singular events.
Our God is an awesome God, and also is faithful to not change at all. God keeps His part of the covenant He has made with man. It is man that has failed to keep his part. Every man and woman is guilty here, so do not deny it. It also says that God will bestow blessings on those who turn from sin and obey Him. Even though we may have sinned and done all sorts of evil, God will still forgive us if we ask for forgiveness and show evidence that we mean it.
Please, please, please take the time to read the prayer of Daniel. You will see that mankind is responsible for our own destruction and short-comings. Many of those who claim to be in a right relationship with God have failed to be faithful as they should. Many who should be taking a stand for the right remain silent. And most people just cannot give up what the world has to offer them.
In Luke 18: 9-14 we read of two men who went to the temple to pray. One was boastful and the other showed humility. The teaching of Jesus indicates that the humble who acknowledge their sins, will be blessed by God, while the boastful fall from His favor.
Please be careful how you pray, what attitude you pray with, and pay attention to the details of your surroundings, or the company you are keeping. It does no good to ask for God’s blessings while you dwell in the Devil’s playground.
We know that God is not willing that any perish (2 Peter 3:9). You must believe that Jesus is the Son of God and died on the cross for your sins. (Acts 8:37). You must repent of your sins (Luke 13:3), you must confess Jesus as Lord (Matthew 10:32) and you must be baptized for the remission of sins (Acts 2:38; 22:16). Then you must remain faithful and continue learning how to serve God(2 Peter 3:18). Let us help you on your spiritual journey. May God bless you in your study of His word.
