Wait On The Lord
The Lord teaches us that one of the Christian virtues is patience. But why patience?
Do we not look at the Bible, the word of God, and see that we have work to do
and it needs to be done now? Does not the Bible teach that we may not have a
tomorrow, and what is important cannot wait? Does not the Bible teach us to
put our sin away today and not wait until tomorrow? So why do we need patience?
Because reality tells us that things do not go as they should, and we need to
be patient for the results we desire.
Psalm 25:5 reads: “Lead me in Thy truth and teach me, for Thou
are the God of my salvation; for Thee I wait all the day.”
Psalm 27:14 reads: “Wait for the Lord; be strong and let your
heart take courage; yes, wait for the Lord”.
A thought behind “waiting on the Lord” can be associated with servitude.
We serve the Lord by being obedient to His will. We serve the Lord when we take
upon ourselves the teaching of God to help people get to Heaven. By living Christian
lives and letting our light shine, we cause others to contemplate the grace
of God.
Then sometimes, the “waiting on the Lord” is nothing more than waiting
for God to do something or provide something for us. When we think that God
is going to take care of us, and think that somehow God will provide for us,
we may have to wait for God’s blessing. But, while we are waiting, we
are supposed to be active in our servitude towards God. In other words, don’t
get lazy.
Remember that God does not operate in human limitations (time, space, or physics).
God works His wonders His way. His way is not limited to time (as we perceive
it), nor do His ways have to be in the physical realm (where we are). If we
adjust our thinking to spiritual matters as opposed to physical matters, we
will see all the blessings that God has in store for us. In a sense, God is
waiting on us to come to Him. Why do you wait?
We know that God is not willing that any perish (2 Peter 3:9). You must believe
that Jesus is the Son of God and died on the cross for your sins. (Acts 8:37).
You must repent of your sins (Luke 13:3), you must confess
Jesus as Lord (Matthew 10:32) and you must be baptized for
the remission of sins (Acts 2:38; 22:16). Then you must remain faithful
and continue learning how to serve God(2 Peter 3:18). Let us help you
on your spiritual journey. May God bless you in your study of His word.
