Seeking Those Who Are Lost
In the weeks following the hurricane, the news media has shown us things which we lost, and why we should be concerned.
First and foremost, lives were lost. Some people died by the storm, and some died because of poor judgment in the placement of the generators or trying to cross floodwaters. Some died from trying to clean things up and one died while preparing for the storm. Even three weeks after the storm we learn that hundreds are still missing. While the greatest fear is that they will be found in a debris field, some are just misplaced and have not contacted their loved ones or friends.
The news showed us the animal shelters and the owners finding their pets and the joyful reunions. We know that people lost their homes, cars and other possessions. Most of us lost our electricity for a while and we did not like it at all. All of us were touched in some way with some sort of loss.
But spiritually speaking, so many people are lost, and do not even know it. People have turned their back on God and are lost in sin. Only Jesus gave us the remedy for that lost
condition. In Luke 15, we read about the lost sheep, the lost coin, and the story of the prodigal son. We see from the scripture the importance of finding the lost and the joy of the lost being found. Jesus came to this earth to seek and save that which was lost. Read Luke 19:10.
Who are the lost? We who have sinned are lost. Sin separates us from God (Isaiah 59:2).
And Jesus can bridge that separation if we are willing to accept His grace and give Him our lives. Some have made the personal sacrifice to dedicate their lives to God. We encourage everyone to do the same.
We know that God is not willing that any perish (2 Peter 3:9). You must believe that Jesus is the Son of God and died on the cross for your sins. (Acts 8:37). You must repent of your sins (Luke 13:3), you must confess Jesus as Lord (Matthew 10:32) and you must be baptized for the remission of sins (Acts 2:38; 22:16). Then you must remain faithful and continue learning how to serve God (2 Peter 3:18). Let us help you on your spiritual journey. May God bless you in your study of His word.
