Can We Find True Peace?
The Psalmists writes in Psalm 133:1 “Behold, how good and how pleasant it is for brothers to dwell together in unity”. Solomon writes in Proverbs 6:19 that one who spreads strife among the brethren is an abomination before the Lord (verse 16).

While many of us long for a utopian society where everyone gets along, we realize that it will not happen in this life, or this world. There are too many people that are selfish and will do things to please themselves before they will do for others. There are too many differences among the inhabitants of this world. Even though everyone longs and desires for a peace, we are struck with the reality that it will not happen here in our lifetime, and we get discouraged or we decide to start looking out for good ole number one. Thus we contribute to the problem.

But there is a place where we can find true peace. That place is in our hearts in the relationship that we have with God. While we may have to deal with ungodly and bitter people all around us, we may have peace with God when we know we are being faithful to Him. The apostle Paul speaks in Philippians 4:7 about “the peace that surpasses all understanding shall guard your hearts and minds in Christ”. There it is. The answer to our question. We find true peace IN Christ Jesus. Ephesians 1:3 tells us that every spiritual blessing is found IN Christ. When we are faithful to the Lord and keep His commandments, we have this relationship, and our souls can rest at ease because we know that we are His children and He approves of us.

Just because we realize that true peace is available by a spiritual relationship with the Lord, we still have to pursue peace among men. Jesus said: “Blessed are the peacemakers, for they shall be called sons of God”. And in Hebrews 12:14 we read: “Pursue peace with all men…” Yes, we need to pursue peace and do things which bring about peace among mankind. We need to be peacemakers to help others dwell together in unity, and it is a goal that we should encourage everyone to seek and attempt.

Peace does not come about by a feeling, emotion, or mental ascent but by obedience to the Lord’s commands.

Why not follow the Bible and begin your spiritual journey. Let us help you. You must believe that Jesus is the Son of God and died on the cross for your sins. (Acts 8:37). You must repent of your sins (Luke 13:3) you must confess Jesus as Lord (Matthew 10:32) and you must be baptized for the remission of your sins (Acts 2:38; 22:16). Then you must remain faithful and continue learning (2 Peter 3:18). May God bless you in your study of His word.
