God Gives Us Two Choices
With only a couple of exceptions in the Bible, God has always offered only two choices to His people. When He told Adam and Eve to eat of every tree in the garden but one, He gave them only two choices—eat or not eat (Genesis 2:17). When God was bringing His people into the promised land He gave them two choices—serve Me or don’t serve Me. (Deuteronomy 6:18) Of course, there are consequences with the choices we make. In Deuteronomy 30:19 God spoke through Moses and told the people in the same context of “serve Me or don’t serve Me”—to choose life or choose death. Naturally this means that to serve God would bring life and to not serve God would bring the punishment of death.
God gives us the same choice in life today. We are commanded to choose righteousness which brings life eternal or we practice wickedness which brings eternal damnation (Romans 2:6-7). We really do not have a third choice. One either chooses sides with God or chooses sides with the world and its error (1 Kings 18:21). We can either be a Christian or we can be a sinner, but we really can’t be both. I know it is popular to think that Christians are safe even if they sin, but that is dangerous ground to tread and since we are supposed to be diligent (2 Peter 1:5) in our servitude to God and Christ, we had better not take any chances. Our best option is to put God first in all things and be faithful to His word and commandments (Matthew 6:33). Choosing the middle of the road makes an individual very frustrated. They understand the need for obedience, but are not willing to give up the fun of the world. Jesus said that anything that gets in the way of serving Him would have consequences, and Jesus said we would not be worthy of His cross (Matthew 10:37).
Have you been obedient to God? If not, let us help you on your spiritual journey. Let us show you how to call upon the name of the Lord in sincerity. To call upon the Lord is to believe on Him, (Acts 16:31), repent of your sins (Acts 8:22). confess His name (Romans 10:9-10) and be baptized for the remission of sins (Acts 2:38, Mark 16:15-16).
Then be faithful unto death (Revelation 2:10).
May God bless you in your study of His word.
