Humility Is Required
One of the biggest obstacles in your relationship with God is yourself. Too
often, our selfish ways prevent us from changing our ways to serve a living
God. Because of that, God tells us in the Bible that He is opposed to the proud,
but gives grace to the humble.
God commands us to walk humbly before our God. God tells us to think of others
as more important than ourselves. (James 4:6; Micah 6:8; 1 Peter 5:6; Philippians
2:3) Consider this. Write down on a piece of paper the word: S I N. Now circle
the middle letter. What we have is the central focal point of sin. That is “I”
or “me” or “self”. There is not a sin that takes place
without the “I” being involved. We choose to sin because we are
selfish. It is so easy to blame others on our shortcomings.
Seems like everyone has an excuse they think will get them “off the hook”
on judgment day. But the problem is that God will not allow us to offer any
excuses on that day. God will tell us what we did and how we did it, and all
we will do on that day is hear our final, eternal judgment proclamation. According
to Matthew 25, we will hear one of two things. Nothing more and nothing less.
“Come, you who are blessed of My Father, inherit the kingdom prepared
for you from the foundation of the world” (v34). Or you will
hear “Depart from Me, accursed ones, into the eternal fire which
has been prepared for the devil and his angels" (v41).
Will you humble yourself? Will you put away self and start serving God? Are
you ready to call upon the Lord? Let us help you. Perhaps you think you have
already called upon the Lord, but have not humbled yourself before Him. Let
us teach you how. To call upon the Lord is to believe on Him,
(Acts 16:31), Repent of your wickedness (Acts 8:22). Confess
His name (Romans 10:9-10) Be baptized for the remission of
sins (Acts 2:38, Mark 16:15-16). Be faithful unto death (Revelation
2:10).
May God bless you in your study of His word.
