Who Will Stand Up For Me?

Last week, a discussion was presented concerning the failure of the Lutheran Church, the Presbyterian Church (USA) and the Episcopal Church to stand against the pressure of the trends of society and allow homosexuality to have a place in their faith. The problem that our country faces is the continual acceptance of those things that God condemns as sinful in His divine word. When the brides of religion begin to wear the same garments of the world in this acceptance, both shall fall into the ditch.

There is a need to stand up today for the truth of God's word. The time for deciding whether God's word is truth is thousands of years old. Satan presented the same arguments to Eve in Genesis 3:1 when he said, "Has God indeed said, `You shall not eat of every tree of the garden'?" He knew if he could make Eve believe that God's word was not truth, she would take of the fruit and eat. Because of her failure (and Adam's) to stand up for the truth of God's law, sin entered the world.

If we do not stand up for truth today, what will we be standing for tomorrow. The German theologian Dietrich Bonhoeffer said, "In Germany they came first for the communists, and I didn't speak up because I wasn't a communist. Then they came for the Jews and I didn't speak up, because I wasn't a Jew. Then they came for the trade unionists and I didn't speak up because I wasn't a trade unionist. Then they came for me and by that time no one was left to speak up for me." I find this happening today in a different manner.

We see how homosexuality has made such progress in our society. Many of those who worship under the faith of the above churches would disavow homosexuality and yet through their silence and the politics of the churches' organizations, it is being allowed and accepted in one form or another. The article last week was only based upon the facts as found in the news.

Wickedness and immorality must not be tolerated and accepted as the norm of society. Consider what the writer of the 94th Psalm had to say:

"O LORD God, to whom vengeance belongs -- O God, to whom vengeance belongs, shine forth! Rise up, O Judge of the earth; render punishment to the proud. LORD, how long will the wicked, how long will the wicked triumph? They utter speech, and speak insolent things; all the workers of iniquity boast in themselves. They break in pieces Your people, O LORD, and afflict Your heritage. They slay the widow and the stranger, and murder the fatherless. Yet they say, 'The LORD does not see, nor does the God of Jacob understand.' Understand, you senseless among the people; and you fools, when will you be wise? He who planted the ear, shall He not hear? He who formed the eye, shall He not see? He who instructs the nations, shall He not correct, he who teaches man knowledge? The LORD knows the thoughts of man, that they are futile. Blessed is the man whom You instruct, O LORD, and teach out of Your law, That You may give him rest from the days of adversity, until the pit is dug for the wicked. For the LORD will not cast off His people, nor will He forsake His inheritance. But judgment will return to righteousness, and all the upright in heart will follow it. Who will rise up for me against the evildoers? Who will stand up for me against the workers of iniquity?"

If we do not stand up against the wickedness and iniquities of our world, who will? If we are unwilling to stand up for the truth of God's word, who will? If we are unwilling to teach the whole counsel of God in truth, we have denied the faith of Jesus Christ.
