Not Satisfied With God's Word
Many people reject the word of God these days often expressing disdain for the
word of God. Jesus said that the words of the Bible are truth (John 17:17) as
they come from God. So why do people reject the word of God? Because they reject
the giver of those words; God. What really becomes a tragedy is when people
who profess to be followers of God are not satisfied with God's word that they
soon learn to despise it and those who teach it.
There is a lot of sin in this world. A big problem exists because sin has entered
each of our lives and we are involved either personally, or someone we love
is involved in it.
God has given instructions to us through His word of how we are to live and
behave in this world. Often, the sin which so easily besets us (Hebrews 12:1)
side-tracks us of doing what we know we should not do. This presents a dilemma.
The same kind that Paul talked about in Romans 7:15-25.
God teaches us to study His word so that we will know how to behave before the
non-believers. God also teaches us how to behave in front of the believers and
fellow saints. His word is simple to understand if you want to know it. Yet
many people have distaste for God's word, because it condemns what they want
to do. When this happens, they either outright reject God's word and do what
they want, or they try to sneak around God's word by using human reasoning and
other scriptures out of context that allows what they are doing to continue,
but they feel right before God. This is the foundation of every false teaching
in existence. It is always trying to find a way that is logical enough to ease
the conscience.
What the Bible teaches is to be taught in its purity and simplicity. Just because
the words do not appeal to us does not give us the right to take away or add
to the message of the scriptures. Sometimes people will choose one scripture,
but ignore the rest on a given topic. That may bolster a particular doctrine,
but it also puts one in opposition to God's word.
I have heard people say that one passage of scripture is wrong because another
seemingly contradicts it. Well, since God is not the author of confusion (1
Corinthians 14:33), it has to be man who is abusing texts to satisfy his pretext.
All too often, man puts his thinkso's before scripture (Proverbs 16:2, 25).
His reasoning is that God is not so cruel as to punish people for what they
do not know. But that flies directly in the face of scripture which says God
will execute vengeance upon those who "know not God, nor keep His commandments".
We could easily say that God is love (1 John 4:8) and that is not an act of
love, so 2 Thessalonians 1:6-9 does not apply to us today. Wow! Did you see
how easy that was to get out? That is my point. It is easier to appeal to human
emotions than to tell people that God requires a certain expectation of them,
and all mankind.
To reject God's word is to reject Him and in a symbolic way is to trample under
foot everything God stands for. Hebrews 10:29 tells us that one insults the
spirit of grace by not obeying the truth. Are you guilty of this? If so read
