BARE FACTS

Christians are to shun immodesty in dress. "In like manner, also, that women adorn themselves in modest apparel, with shamefastness and sobriety; not with braided hair, and gold or pearls or costly raiment but (which becometh women professing godliness) through good works." 1 Tim. 2:9,10. One may immodestly overdress through pride or vanity or they may immodestly under- dress. What motivation is behind the annual undressing? If you are one of the many participating in it you need to read the following carefully. At this season of the year, when little boys are just getting a glimmer of hope about going barefoot, their older brothers and sisters frequently "outstrip" them by baring considerable more than their feet. Some pretend that this virtual undressing is to make the summer heat more bearable. Whom do we fool? They are not fooling those who have been in tropical climates and have seen demonstrated the fact that the surest way to parch to a crisp is by ignoring the need for a protective layer of clothing. Then, too, this dis-robing always begins in the spring before the weather becomes unbearably warm. (I can personally vouch for the statement about people wearing protective clothing in the tropics, having spent two years in the tropics just recently, JWS)

The psychologist understands that the wearing of scant clothing is an expression of the yearning to be bold and daring. It is a sensual form of exhibition. There is no shred of modesty in it.

Time was, when such talk pointed to the public swimming pools only. Now it includes the front lawn, sidewalks, and every street in every city and town in America. About all that remains to be done by those who want to be more bold than the rest, is complete nudity. How long will our laws against that even be enforced?

Chastity involves more than the abstinence from adultery. It includes a modest avoidance of that which encourages adulterous thought. It may be noted that the women of the world dress to be CHASED. Women of God dress to be CHASTE. The difference is not just in the way they are spelled.
