Walking In Newness Of Life

Week Six

Learning To Pray

Day Thirty-Six

[Remember to always begin your Bible study with prayer.]

By now you should have already established a habit of praying daily. However, prayer is not something that comes naturally. In fact, in Luke 11:1 the disciples asked Jesus, "Lord, teach us to pray..." This will be the object of our lessons this week.

1. Begin by reading Romans 10:1. Notice that the heart's desire and actual prayer are two different things. From this verse, how would you define prayer?

2. Now read these passages: 1 Thessalonians 5:17-18; Philippians 4:6-7; Colossians 4:2; Matthew 7:7-11. Why does God want us to pray? Compare this to a parent-child relationship. Why would a parent want his child to make request of him?

3. Read 1 Timothy 2:1-8. What are the different types of prayers God has asked us to pray?

** Prayer is our heart's desires expressed before God. It is one of the greatest indications of our dependence and trust in God as our Father. If we do not talk to Him about our needs we do not trust Him or think we need Him very much. Remember to give thanks.
